The client faced a critical challenge in scaling data-driven decision-making across its departments. Teams were heavily reliant on centralised data teams for analytics, leading to bottlenecks and delays. The organisation needed a way to empower departments to extract value from their data independently and automate repetitive, time-consuming data preparation and processing tasks.
The client partnered with us to set up a dedicated CoE focused on Microsoft Fabric. This hub served as a strategic enabler, guiding departments in adopting Fabric as a self-serve analytics platform and fostering a culture of data ownership and agility.
The CoE developed and disseminated best-practice patterns for using key Fabric components including Dataflow Gen2, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, Data Pipelines, Notebooks, and Power BI. These patterns helped teams standardise their approach to data preparation, modelling, and reporting.
To maximise the client’s existing investment in analytics infrastructure, Mirrored Databases were introduced. This allowed departments to tap into existing datasets with minimal friction, accelerating adoption and reducing duplication of effort.
Four teams were successfully onboarded to Microsoft Fabric in a self-serve capacity. This enabled them to independently manage data workflows, reducing reliance on centralised analytics and accelerating delivery of insights across departments.
Half-day training sessions were delivered and recorded, creating a reusable onboarding resource. These recordings allowed future teams to learn at their own pace, ensuring consistent understanding and reducing the need for repeated live facilitation.
A SharePoint-based knowledge hub was launched, offering curated self-paced learning paths, FAQs, and extended content. It helped teams quickly find answers, deepen their Fabric expertise, and reduce support dependency.
A Microsoft Teams-based data community was created with channels for topic discussions and experience sharing. It fostered cross-team collaboration, peer support, and continuous learning, strengthening the organisation’s data culture.
